Educational Kits FAQs
What grade or age range are these kits for?
It depends on the kit. The Tech Light Lab LED Optics Kit is built for grades 4-10. Light Blox on its own is designed for a wider range, grades 2-8, since younger students can use it for basic color mixing while older students take it into more advanced refraction and reflection work. Laser Blox is intended for grades 7 through college level, since it's laser-based rather than LED-based and requires a bit more maturity to handle responsibly.
What's the difference between Light Blox and the Tech Light Lab kit?
Light Blox is the core LED tool on its own, three colored LEDs (red, green, blue) that double as a ray box for studying reflection and refraction. The Tech Light Lab kit is the expanded version: it includes the same Light Blox, plus three acrylic lenses, two mirrors with stands, a diffraction grating, and a protractor, everything needed for a full optics unit rather than just color-mixing basics.
Are these kits safe for students to use?
Yes. Light Blox and the Tech Light Lab kit use safe, low-power LEDs, not lasers, so there's no eye-safety concern the way there is with laser pointers. Laser Blox is the one laser-based product in this collection, and it uses the same FDA-compliant, classroom-safe laser technology covered in our Laser Safety guide.
Can I order these in bulk for a classroom or school district?
Yes. Bulk discounts are available starting at 10 units on most items, with an additional price break at 25, which is typically what a full classroom set needs. Contact us for a quote on larger orders.
Do these kits come with lesson plans?
Yes, there are 9 lessons in the printed booklet with the Tech Light Lab and you’ll receive the PDF by email to make additional copies. We also offer over 25 free, downloadable lessons on light, color, and optics, covering topics like color mixing, reflection, refraction, and diffraction, many aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The lessons work with Light Blox, Laser Blox, or any comparable RGB light source or laser pointer you already have.
